UPT.com's Reference Library

The site's substantial reference library brings together writings spanning 250 years from the piano's invention to modern times. Encompassing the renowned and hugely influentual "piano methods" of yesteryear, treatises on every aspect of piano-playing, biographies of outstanding teachers and collections of interviews with legendary virtuosos - each of the library's titles documents part of the tortuous history of how great pianists, teachers, students and researchers have attempted to think about, understand, improve and disseminate ideas about the nature of technical expertise and what matters most for acquiring it.

Much of the Reference Library's content is accessible online, but mostly from separate sources that may be hard and time-consuming to discover. It also includes exceptionally important, often-cited titles that are evidently available only within the libraries of academic institutions, inaccessible to anyone not formally affiliated with them. UPT.com's library, then, represents a uniquely valuable resource for all pianists and teachers wishing to research and critically appraise the established literature on piano-playing in the light of present-day understanding.
