UPT.com Site-wide House Rules and Guidelines

Liability

Understanding Piano Technique.com (hereafter referred to as "UPT.com", or "the Website", or "Staff"} does not guarantee the accuracy, validity, integrity or security status of content submitted (posted or uploaded) to any part of the Website, and will accept no liability for any issues relating thereto. UPT.com does not scan all hosted files for malware. Users intending to submit content they predict would be irreplaceable in the event of its disappearance or removal from the Website's remote server accept full responsibility for ensuring they create a personally accessible backup-copy of that content before submitting it.

User submitted content is out of our control unless we have known about the presence of it for at least one full week.

Accounts and your behaviour

Do not join the Website more than once (hence creating multiple accounts). If you cannot remember your password, use the 'lost password' feature, which is available on the login page. If problems persist, contact the staff.

Do not pose as, or wilfully act as, a member of Staff.

Copyright

The Website, its design-features, and all original content submitted to it by its users and staff, including the content of Forum posts, are copyrighted material. Copying, downloading, distributing, and extended verbatim quoting of any such material outside of its original location on the Website without specifically-relating permission having been obtained from its author(s) shall constitute  infringement of copyright and result in those infringing it being banned from the Website.

Submitted content that anywhere cites the substance of another author's work or stated ideas - whether or not he/she is a registered user of the website - must provide information fully stating the cited source in each case.

General posting/submission guidelines

Do not post any copyrighted material for which you have no right to do so. In the case of material you believe to be in the public domain (i.e., non-copyright material), it shall your responsibility to ensure that is so for all countries and to clearly indicate the names of any countries in which the material is currently still copyrighted.

Do not use strong/harsh swearing or sexual references.

Do not be too sexually graphic. Do not link to or post pornography, and only mild and non-sexually motivated nudity is allowed.

Staff have the right to edit, censor, delete or otherwise modify any content message they feel is inapproriate, without any warning given to the poster.

Do not submit any content that you know to contain malware or commonly exploited security holes.

Content submitted to UPT.com will not necessarily be removed by request. With regard to types of content that you are not permitted to delete for yourself, Staff are not bound to remove your submitted content, and anything submitted should be assumed to be staying on the Website's servers and permanently accessible to permitted users. By submitting, you are aware of the consequences of doing so, accept full responsibility for having done so and that you may not at any time insist on your content being withdrawn.

Do not try to bypass the word filter: filtered words are placed in the filter in accordance with guidelines, and obvious misspellings or equally obnoxious alternatives, only serve to work against the wishes of the staff.

Do not post spoilers (material that reveals information relating to the subject matter of this website before the majority of members have learnt it through the channels they would wish to) in your topic titles. If you wish to post spoilers inside a topic, give good warning about their presence, or enclose spoiler content within  the Comcode 'hide' tag so as to initially conceal it from view.

Do not post a link to a website that contains material that would be in violation of UPT.com rules if posted directly on the UPT.com Website. Special exceptions may be granted by Staff where clearly visible warnings are appended to certain links.

Do not incite illegal activity, either directly, or by educating with the obvious purpose to make it more achievable.

Do not spam the website:

  • you must be moderately confident that anything posted will interest at least a minority of UPT.com's users.
  • you must not post material more than once unless there is good reason, from the point of view of other users.

Do not intentionally disrupt other users' enjoyment of the website. 'Enjoyment' has a generalized meaning for the purposes of this rule - for example, (respectful) robust argument in a debate forum would be considered 'enjoyable', since one can reasonably presume that debators would wish for it.

Be respectful of the opinions of other users, and do not discriminate on the basis nationality, sexuality, gender, religion or race. Do not flame or denigrate other users. If you have a problem with another user's actions, please contact the Website's Staff.

The Website is private property and hence its Staff reserve the right to exercise any form of censorship regarding users' conduct or their submitted content - you agree not to consider the Website a forum for free speech if the staff consider it breaks the rules.

Forum and Page-comments

Additional rules and guidelines regarding use of our Forum and Page-comments facility are presented on the Forum House-Rules page (accessible via the top, horizontal menu on Forum pages). Please read them thoroughly before first posting on either facility!

Feedback

The feedback forum and page were created so that members may contact Staff on non-personal matters concerning the Website that require their attention, whilst allowing other users to participate in discussing them. Please make an extra effort to not go off-topic when posting - Staff must read every last post of feedback, so off-topic messages will tire and perhaps annoy them.

Signatures

Images in your signature should not exceed 50k in size, 468 pixels wide, or 110 pixels tall. For a guideline, this is about five lines of standard-sized text space. Text in your signature should also not exceed more than 5 lines of normal-sized text space.

Remember that a big signature is not always a good signature. Keep it nice and simple. Feel free to advertise your website if you wish, if the link to it does not itself break site rules.

Avatars

For your own sake, avoid trying to use .bmp files as avatars - the system will not let you, because you should compress them to a more appropriate format, such as the .png format.
Avatars size is restricted by the system according to your usergroup.

Points

Do not abuse the point system - every gift point transaction must be justifiable to the staff, in both quantity and purpose.

Hacking

You may not, unless explicitly given permission by a high-ranking member of staff, try to hack into this website. For the purpose of this rule, 'hacking' includes any technique designed to compromise the security or stability of the website.

Privacy

Acceptance of these rules implies acceptance of the privacy policy (which includes details of how this website uses cookies).

Violation

Staff reserve the right to ban any member who breaks any rule, whether the rule is agreed as broken by the alleged offender or not. No warning or explanations need be given.

Staff also reserve the right to change these rules at any time. Registered users will be notified automatically of changes, and may be asked to confirm acceptance of them upon first logging-in to the Website after such notifications have been issued.
